Obituary for Marie M Hurtz

Marie M. Hurtz, 88, of Cashton, WI, passed away Friday, November 16, 2018, at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, WI.

Marie was born September 17, 1930, in Cashton, WI , to Ted and Helen (Frederick) Briggeman and she grew up on the family farm. Marie was united in Holy Matrimony to James Hurtz on April 13th, 1948, in Pine Hollow Catholic Church near Cashton, WI.

Marie and Jim lived on St. Joseph’s Ridge for a couple of years, then bought a family farm on St. Mary’s Ridge for 35 years. Marie also worked at Northern Engraving in Sparta for 17 years.

Nothing was more important to her than her family. She tried to instill in each of her children a strong sense of faith in God. Marie loved playing cards, gardening, listening to old time music and spending time with her family and friends. Marie will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

Marie is survived by her children, Rosita Breitenfield of Rochester, MN, Sharon (Tony) Nicola of Portland, OR, Arnold Hurtz of Cashton, Edward (Kim) Hurtz of Germantown, WI, Alvin Hurtz of Cashton, Marvin Hurtz of Cashton and Michael Hurtz of Cashton,

She is survived by, 14 grandchildren, David (Marti) Breitenfield, Jennifer (Bill) Krause, Michelle, Teresa, Joseph, and Jacob Nicola, Amy (Joe) Wald, Alyssa (Shawn) Bowersock, Adam Hurtz, Jessica (Eric) Keyes, Jason Hurtz, Candace (Jake) Hundt, Eric ( Nicole) Hurtz, Leigh (Melissa) Hurtz, 21 great grandchildren, Jax, Hudson, and Nicholas Breitenfield, Alex and Tyler Krause, Adam Nicola-Dghonghi, Levi, Nora and Gage Wald, Mason, Sienna Bowersock, Weston Hurtz, Mason, Sierra and Sabrina, Abel Hundt, Nadia and Lauren Hurtz, Justin, Kora and Camden Hurtz.

Marie is also survived by her sisters, Betty Schmitz of La Crosse, Agnes Schmitz of Cashton, Frances Brueggen of Cashton, Lucy (Donnie) Kneifl of Oregon, WI, and Elaine (Darold) Dahlke of La Crosse; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, James, January of 2004; three children, Gerald, Bernard and Donald Hurtz; son-in-law, Jerrold Breitenfield; brothers-in-law, Bobbie Schmitz, Donnie Schmitz, and Ervin Brueggen.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, November 24, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton, WI. Father Michael Klos will officiate. Burial will take place at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cemetery on St. Mary’s Ridge, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held Friday, November 23, 2018, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and concluding at 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton, WI. Visitation will also be held Saturday from 9:30 am. until the time of service at Sacred Heart Church.
