Obituary for Nicholas L. Janz

Nicholas L. Janz, age 40, of Warrens, Wisconsin, passed away Monday, July 1, 2019. Nick was born December 21, 1978 to Gary and Bobbi (Schenk) Janz. He was married to the love of his life on May 26, 2007.

Nick was a family man who devoted his life to his children and wife. He loved sharing his passion and knowledge of the outdoors with them and they all enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, hiking, bear-baiting, and critter cruises together. Raising puppies and training dogs was a family affair. He enjoyed teaching his wife and kids life skills like building things, fixing things, and changing oil. He loved watching his kids play hockey, softball, and baseball and was even learning how to coach baseball. He went on horse-back rides because his kids wanted him to and had 5 dogs and some “stupid” chickens because his wife wanted him to.

Nick was an active member of the community and helped coach youth sports. He was a coach for the Black River Falls Shooting Tigers and had plans to coach hockey this winter. Nick was also a very active member of the WI Bear Hunters Association.

Nick worked at Volk Field for the Department of Military Affairs since 2010.

Nick was born and raised in Wisconsin Rapids and graduated from Lincoln High School and Mid-State Technical college. He played and coached hockey for many years and spent most of his free time hunting or fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Amy; children Mackenzie, Jaedyn, and Cooper; parents Gary and Bobbi Janz; sister Sara Janz, brother Jesse (Katharine) Janz, brother Justen Janz, brother-in-law Eric (Rochelle) Christie, sister-in-law Kaitlyn (Kyle) Bain; brother-in-law Jeremy (Carrie) Schumacher; father and mother-in-law Pete and Denyse Schumacher; Grandmother Marjory Schenk; and beloved nieces and nephews Nicholes, Nathan, Ian, Ellie, Lily, Moira, Eleanor, Nolan, and Silas; god-daughter Amelia Scheunemann; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by brother Brian Janz and brother-in-law Paul Ryszka; grandparents Jesse and Margaret Janz, and Jack Schenk.

Nick will be remembered as passionate, opinionated, and hard-working. He gave 110% to every project he ever worked on. We will see him in all the things he built and fixed for us. He will guide us with every critter we track, animal we harvest, dog we raise, and shot we take. His love and passion for life will always live on in us.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2019, 1:00 p.m. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 4285 US Hwy 12, Warrens, WI. Pastor Kory Janneke will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
